i'm totally new to this, only started planting things three weeks ago and i've not got much of a clue what i'm doing... it's sooooooo stressful

i'm seriously considering throwing a sickie tomorrow cos some kind of critter has started eating my strawberry plant and i need to go to the garden centre to get some kind of murder weapon to kill the effing thing

was wondering if anyone wanted to be my newbie gardening buddy? we could share the burden of looking after our babies, the trials and tribulations, highs and lows, blah blah blah

Please don't throw a sickie for a strawb plant......I've changed your title to one a bit more appropriate for a family forum

What kind of things are you hoping to grow CKFE?

I'm new to this too - only started sowing things at the end of March - easy to tell I was a newbie, I sowed a whole packet of tomato seeds!

My strawberries have been keeling over *sob*, apparently cos I'm showing them too much love (overwatering). I feel your pain about the things eating them - I have aphids on mine - although less than I did after I've been regularly squashing them.

Morning ckfe (what does that stand for)
You are right about gardening samaritans - everyone here understands and helps when things go wrong but also share all the highs.
I hope you get the strawberry thief sorted out! Did not see toms on your list?

morning bumble, i stole the ckfe name off my friend called carolyn khoo.. she owns a fashion shop in malaysia called Carolyn Khoo Fashion Emporium so she used the initials to make CKFE .. nothing more exciting than that unfortunately

yep forgot to mention the tomatoes, i planted some seeds over the weekend.. should i grow them indoors or out? i've got one of those tiny blowaway greenhouses but can't see me being able to grow a tall tomato plant in there

lol i hope you like tomatoes.. are aphids like little flies and can they eat a 10p sized hole?.. and what can i use to get rid of them? ... i'm thinking of hiring a contract killer but think i might be slightly over reacting

can slugs crawl up a planter though? it's like two foot high and its only the highest leaves that are getting munched on

slugs - called keel slugs - live in the soil and yes, they can crawl up planters.

so if i put some slug pellets round the bottom of the planter it'll get rid of the slugs?
