Not if they're already in the soil IN the planter. I'd try a combination of things - something like grit or bran or coffee grounds around each plant to make them think 'oooh I'm not walking across THAT', copper tape or vaseline around the planter itself to discourage them from slithering up the sides, maybe some sacrificial lettuce leaves or similar to attract them away from the strawberry plant... Experiment, and hopefully when the strawberries are ripening beautifully you'll feel more confident about being able to 'control' your little visitors

Slugs are horrid little critters I've said this before on a different thread but I pay my son 50p a day to go and collect as many as he can, it does seem to be working for now but i think i may try the grit technique though as an extra precaution!!

can slugs crawl up a planter though? it's like two foot high and its only the highest leaves that are getting munched on

Most likely snails, esp. the little tiny baby snails. I've got them roosting behind my wall planters and in the gaps of my blowaway greenhouses.

Or should I say "had" them ...
