I have very limited space so I was wondering if there was anything I could grow between my tomato plants. I was thinking lettuce, beetroot and radish, would these be ok? Is there anything else I could try?
Yes, all of those. My toms go inbetween whatever else is around in my beds. Bunches of spring onions? you can start them off in small pots, a pinch of seed to each, and plant them out without separating them and they will grow and push each other apart.
Basil, sprinkle the seed at the base of the tomato plant and pop some organic slug pellets down; I did this last year and the basil lasted through the winter and is still growing.
Have you considered marigolds? They are supposed to help deter whitefly from your toms. I put herbs around the base of my toms like the others have said.
I've just planted out my basket toms, with French Marigolds and Coriander (Cilantro) - hopefully they'll keeps the bugs away. Going to sprinkle a few red basil seeds too.
