    i haven't got a dibber, what can i use instead? and how do i know how far down to dig to get to the root?

      Hi ckfe - you can use anything - try a pencil. Nice and gentle -you will probably find they come out easier than you think. look at the bottom of the cell-can you see any roots? if not than they are no deeper than the cell.

            you don't need to have items like a dibber when you can use something else instead, like your fingers, or a pencil, or something like that.

              You can use an old knife or a plastic plant label. Just something that you can easily dig the seedling out with. If you hold on to the seed leaf and poke the knife into the soil at the side of the seedling and wait untill you feel the plant want to 'give' before you lift it gently out. If you keep the roots in a nice bundle and carefully put into its new pot and cover well then the seedling will hardly know its been disturbed :-)
