  • larvae in my bean seeds

Sowed some runner bean seeds 2 1/2 weeks ago (Pre packed seeds from GS, can't find rest of pack, reputable brand etc.) alongside some grown in pots. Since none of them cam up yesterday I had a furtle but found no beans at the 3 canes I checked. Today I bought some at the GC and planted them this afternoon. Low and behold I found some of the missing seeds, full of quarter inch long white wigglers. No idea what they are, never seen anything like it, the plants are fine and thriving, planted at the same time. Any ideas? I have planted some of the ones I bought today but stopped after the third heaving bean seed! Should I plant the rest?

Eeeuuwww.. Tht sounds gross! I'm afraid I have no idea what your white wigglers are, but if the plants are ok, why don't you try sowing your seeds into pots? Then plant them out once germinated so the wigglers can't ruin them?

Thanks Sarah, I was more concerned with the new plants going in. Am also going to find the rest of the packet and sow some in pots to see if there is a problem there.

Could be Bean Weevils? There's lots of different ones apparently. Bean weevil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
