  • Storing Squashes

Well I'm feeling pretty chuffed with myself having just been and collected 11 butternut squashes from 4 plants that I originally found as seedlings in my compost heap . Note to self order squash seeds for next year as they seem to like it here .

So the question now is how do I store them?

Hi Caroline, I just keep them in the back kitchen (utility room) where it's reasonably cool. They keep for months and we've eaten them by them. I wonder what other people do.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

We have around 18 or so in storage at the moment, all we did was to wipe off any mudiness, got a couple in the fridge and the rest are in the garden shed on an old veg basket rack/shelf thing, this should keep them nice and aired and cool/cold so hopefully should last for quite a few months.

As above but dont keep them on a tiled surface as condensation can form causing them to rot. I store mine as above but on wooden shelves and they last for months.

11! 18! Wow, makes my one that I was so proud of seem a bit pathetic. At least I don't have to worry about storage problems.
