  • Should my garlic already be growing so much?

I planted up my garlic into pots in about the middle of October (too early?). It's now got shoots 12 to 18 inches high. I though it was meant to be getting on with growing roots now. I've read other people saying there's hasn't come up yet but that's ok as it's doing roots

I had planned on planting some of it out into the garden when the space came available from clearing annuals out when they got too manky. However, now it's got so tall would I be better off leaving it in the mini greenhouse till spring? I mean, I know it's hardy, but it's got lots of new green growth - would that be at risk from frost? Or should I go with the original plan and get it in the ground?

oh, and slimers ate my chard.

I would. Maybe because you have grown them in the mini greenhouse they have grown on a bit too much??
Perhaps let them harden off for a few days before planting out (or keep them covered at night for 4-5 days if you expect a frost). I'm sure they will be fine just planted out.

Mine will be going in this week too Nicos. I'm still running late from earlier in the year.

I planted mine in post over the past few weeks and the early ones are already shooting up (left them outside). Due to the frosts last week have brought them inside the greenhouse - bad frost due tomorrow night as well, so leaving them in there for time being. Glad its not just mine that are sprouting well.
