As our garden is so windy, I have screwed a coldframe onto a pallet so I dont lose it completely. Now I am wondering whether I should line the bottom to prevent or at least reduce draughts from underneath. At present the little pots/trays are sitting in one large deep tray so they have some protection from both wind and slugs. Will it work better if I put a weed membrane liner in and some soil/gravel/cardboard to reduce wind and raise the temp ?

It sounds like you are talking about insulating it from below, and I think that makes sense. They're meant to sit flush on the ground, so having them open at the bottom would definitely counteract the warming effect. I believe the ground is usually warmer than the air (although not always, I guess) so having the bottom suspended in circulating air would cool it quite a bit, I think.
