Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong? When planting out my plants into 12" pots after growing from seeds, I put small stakes in for support. Over the last few days, the plants have started to hang over and I want to know what I need to do. I have since found out that I needen't have put in stakes as they are hanging plants. Knowing this I untied the stakes and allowed the plants to droop or hang. Have I done the right thing or should I tie the where they were and let them hang from there.
I have only just started growing this year so I am a novice, so plain English would be appreciated!!!

They are a hanging basket tomato, so just let them do their thing. No staking required.

Hi mickribka and welcome to the vine.

I'm growing the same variety of tomato (amongst others) this year, and I have done exactly what you did. Because I'm growing them in pots rather than hanging baskets, I've staked the main stem about 6 inches up to give the body of the plant some support. All the other shoots (and the main stem above the stake) are free to loll around as they see fit. I did this so that the tomatoes wouldnt all be dragging on the ground - if you are using a hanging basket as their final resing place then this wont be an issue and you should be OK. I grew a tumbing type last year in pots without any staking, and a lot of the fruit got spoiled by critters on the floor.
