Tomato mishap

I was tying my tomatos today to bamboo canes, something which i should have done a few weeks ago, i have now learned!

One of them was so bent, as i pulled it to the cane, the main stem snapped. There was loads of flowers and buds above it so i am gutted (and have learnt a valuable lesson!)

Do you think there is any chance the broken stem would grow if i planted it seperately? I have heard you can get plants from side shoots if they are planted, but wondered about the main stem.

Any advice would be gratefully received

Yep, plant it and I reckon it will grow Did it snap completely off? I did the same thing and broke one almost through, just tied it back into place and it carried on like it didn't notice!

I did this with a cucumber seedling when I was trying to transplant it, it wasn't snapped through completely, so I buried it just above the poorly bit of the stem in the deepest plant pot I could find and about a month on it looks like it's doing well! I think it's worth a go!

It's so gutting when it happens though!

Yes it snapped clean off - i will pot it though, nothing to lose!

Yup, I did the same with a tomato earlier in the season, was much smaller than yours but same principal I reckon.
I stuck the top broken bit into a pot right up to the bottom leaves and left it.
Leaves turned yellowy brown and looked pretty dead, was literaly about to chuck it in the compost, picked the pot up, and noticed a small green shoot in the middle.
Same plant is now out in the garden, a touch smaller than its siblings but growing ok.

Good luck! I saw on Gardeners World the other week that they were putting the pinched out side shoots in compost to root, so I can't see any difference! I'm sure it will be ok!
