  • Tap the Toms?

Peter Seabrook suggests "tapping" (as in a gentle hand tap) tomatoes to encourage pollenation. Any thoughts?

Well as toms usually fertilise themselves by means of the pollen dropping from one bit to another, then I usually do it. I don't believe it's strictly necessary but there's no harm in helping nature along (much though it grieves me to agree with the man with his pro-peat stance - gets off High Horse!)

I'm no fan of his either Flum, my husband read it out loud from the newspaper he reads on Saturday morning!

I don't usually bother (quite lazy) and always seem to get a good haul of toms but it can't do any harm if you want to.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

If I remember whilst in the greenhouse I give mine a quick 'Vibrate'.

Bees are better for the job though.

When there's a shortage of pollinating insects, I sometimes have a little tickle with a feather (on the flowers of course) Alan

Must go and vibrate the toms in my GH since they just don't seem to be getting on with it!
