Cucumber leaves are turning brown

Hi,

My cucumber leaves are turning brown and dying just as the first signs of little cucumbers (or flowers) are showing.

I've been spraying with washig up liquid to kill off any flies but it doesn't seem to be making much difference.

Also I've noticed that the earth is still damp several days after watering - is this thing dead?

I think your washing up liquid solution has been too strong and you've burned them.
You could lay off it and see if the plants recover. Good luck.

Looks to me like "MOSAIC VIRUS", i don't want to alarm you... but if it is you'll have to dig them up and burn them.. i had it last year, it has a slightly sweet smell to it....i really hope it isn't. Good Luck with them.

I'm fairly new to this so I could be talking rubbish but I wouldn't have thought it was a good idea to have four to one pot. I think they're quite hungry feeders and may be short of nutrients. Is it just the lower leaves or all of em that's going brown?

I think they are stressed DG. And has been said, four in a pot will cause a fight for moisture and nutrients, they really are greedy little beggars.
Also, did you water in the sunshine or leave the plants with water on the leaves?
How tall are they?
Where are they situated. It looks like they are outside?
If they are not too tall perhaps you could carefully tip the pot out and separate them and repot on.
Each of my cucumbers is in a pot as big as yours but with the bottom cut out.
The pot is then placed into either a larger compost/soil filled tub or a black sack with the sides rolled down. (Plenty of drainage holes though)
I liquid feed into the top pot but water into the tub/bag at the bottom.
Do a google search for Mosaic virus and see if it matches the state of yours.
