  • Sweet Ramiro Pointed Peppers

    Hi,
I am new this year to growing my own, soon ran out of space in my garden and only just got an allotment on 11 June this year, which we have virtually cleared the site and have a few things growing .

I was wondering if you can and if so where you can get the above "Sweet Ramiro Pointed Peppers" either plant or seeds?

Can you remove the seeds from such a pepper, dry them and use them?

I assume they can be grown over here or am I completely wrong.

Can you tell I am new to all of this LOL!

    Any help appreciated

    Many thanks

Yes, you can grow the seeds from the peppers, I sowed some from a supermarket "sweet pointy pepper" earlier in the year and it's growing great guns at the moment, just started flowering. I also grew some seeds from a 'mini orange sweet pepper' and they are really healthy plants too. Mine are in a greenhouse, but they'd be happy enough at outside at this time of year. They might have to be brought indoors to ripen when the weather gets a bit colder in the autumn though.

Check your garden centre for sweet pepper plants, too late to sow your own. Ebay seems to have plants, but watch their size, they need to be at least 6" I'd have thought to ensure you get any crop this summer.

Simpsons Seeds - Vegetable Plants says they've veggie plants left, try phoning them they post out.

Thank you both Sarah and Manda for the advice. I might just give drying some seeds a go - nothing really to lose I suppose. Nothing ventured nothing gained and all that!

If your seeds germinate but don't get to fruiting stage, you should be able to overwinter them, either indoors or in a heated greenhouse
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Pity you don't live a bit closer, I've got spares but they're too big to post now. I'd give them a go anyway, like Seahorse says, they will over-winter on a window-sill and you'll get an earlier crop from them next year

Thanks Seahorse and Sarah, I think I will take your advice and just give it a go. Thanks for the offer also Sarah.

I searched for ages looking for Ramiro plants and seeds without any luck. I ended up doing the same as Sarzwix and using seeds from a supermarket pepper in the hope that they were not F1's. Plants are doing well and have just come into flower.

Good to hear Rana, that is what it looks like I will be doing.
