Your cukes are mere babies and I'd fancy there'd be a few bumps - which will smooth out as the cuke gets bigger and swollen with water.

Logic tells me this is so - but perhaps someone will correct me who has better knowlege.

Many home-grown varieties of veg have strange lumps and bumps on them. There's normally nothing wrong with them - its just that many folk have only seen 'perfect' supermarket specimens.

Some cukes (mostly the outdoor ones) are knobbly anyway rather than the smooth and straight ones you get in the supermarket. They look the same as mine usually do at this stage.

They look like perfectly normal Cukes to me KerryP.
Keep the BIL away from them.

Outdoor ones are always knobbly. Your BIL doesn't know as much as he thinks he does. Smack his hand!

I've had marketmore cucs that look like they've been crossed with a hedgehog They're definately supposed to be like that.

Incidentally, I find them to be very thick skinned at times and prefer them peeled as the skins can be quite chewy.

Your BIL would freak out if he saw my Crystal apples/lemons.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

Smack his wrist VERY hard....does he grow veg or just buy it at the supermarket??!!

I'm growing cucs for the first time, with advice from my Dad who grows fantastic cucs.
                            I'm growing "Burpless Tasty Green".
The 2 planted in the garden look very sad. The one in the mini "Blow away greenhouse" and the one on the windowsill seem to have plans for world take-over!!
I've had to fertisise the one indoors with a paintbrush.

They look all lumpy and prickley at first, but the prickes go as they grow.
I harvested my first cuc last week......I was so proud I even took a pic of it! ( How SAD is that?)
                            AND it tasted good too!!

                            Keep your BIL away!!!

Perfectly normal. Those rough bits are extra protection for the little fruitlets.

Smack your BIL heartily across the chops.!
