Courgette Question

Well, this is only my second post on this forum...I have so many questions its a job to know where to start....someone advised me yesterday to post each question separately....this is number 1....

Courgettes??
I have 2 lovely plants grown from seed with a little mildew n the leaf (think that's the right term), not too worried about this though. The Q I have is to do with the main stem of the plant which seems to be splitting. The plant has grown about 4-5 inches above ground and then obviously due the to the weight it is toppling over...should I worry about this and is there anything I can do?

PS - just about to eat the first harvest in a bacon and courgette pasta for our tea (SO exciting) although my 2 year old comment was yuchhhh! How rude.

If it is splitting, put a stake in there to hold it up a bit [i have one on my yellow squash because it's growing upright, but it was falling over]
there's no need to tie it in, just push it in quite close [but not into the middle where the roots are] and lean the plant against it.

Thanks Taff, I will try this tomorrow. Very proud of my courgettes so want to do everything I can for them.

You could also earth it up a bit, make a bit of a mound, this will make it stronger at the base.

Thanks guys, I will try both, Jackie - is it ok to mound the earth over the split section of the stalk?
