I have a very healthy butternut squash which is now about 6ft long. However, I haven't had a single flower which I though I would have had by now. What can I do to get it to start flowering ??

Reason: spelling!
They grow to 6'? There's no way I've left enough room for my 4!

Ollie, you should have planting distance on your seed packet?
You're probably right!
They were a last-minute idea, I got a free packet from a BBC promo' in town and decided to slot them in between by potatoes and tomatoes.
I'm hoping that the potato crop will be out before they get too big and I'll have some extra space. Otherwise, It was all in vain!

dig in seed instructions said 90 cm ( 36 inches in old money ) apart so you could be ok Ollie
to be honest I probably haven't even left that much, they're already being swamped by the far-advanced toms and pots, but I'm sure we'll work something out.

Don't panic Ollie, they will wend their way through whatever's in their way and still bear fruit. Mine last year went through the onions and sweetcorn. All was well and I had some lovely fruit. The onions and corn didn't suffer either.
Mine are planted next to triffids so spacing won't be a problem when the meteor Storm starts
(two things that scared as a kid were the living daylight out of me were the Cyber Man in Doctor Who and The Day of the Triffids, I still can't turn my back to a Gladioli just in case it attack me)
