Good day, bad day

The wind picked up quite a bit here in North London yesterday - but no more than there has been recently.

Bad day......
I came home to find my 2 tallest and beautiful sunflowers had broken in half The tallest one was about 9 foot tall and the flower was just opening. The stems of both of these are so thick and hard I really don't know how they've snapped - the wind must have been really strong! I've tried to put them in water but they're wilting so don't think they'll make it beyond tonight. So sad as they were beautiful.

80% of the ingredients in my dinner last night were home grown - and it tasted all the better for it

Now..... we just need a little less rain and a little more sun - just for a few days.....

It's a shame about bout your sunflowers .
When my sunflowers were younger, I accidently snapped one and a friend told me to stick it in a bucket of VERY wet compost... I did and it grew alright untill I cut it off again with a garden cane, it died then. Odd thing... it didn't seem to grow roots, maybe I was just sustaining life with the food in the compost?? Hx

What a shame about your sunflowers: and yes, they are beautiful. It's windy round here. I can't even do wallflowers totally successful, so have to do dwarf ones. Pretty much the same for sunflowers. This year I have a border with little ones in. They grow about 15" so that has solved the problem for me.
