I decided to try growing turnips for the first time this year. And of course I've grown far too many. There's no stopping them. I've eaten loads, given away loads but there's still about another half a row left growing. So, before they get too big and woody, what's the best way to store them for eating later? Can I put them in big brown paper potato sacks and leave them in the shed?

Ladylottie, if by turnips you mean those small sweet turnips like purple top Milan ( as opposed to swedes) then they freeze perfectly well. Just clean them, reove the skins very lightly, put them on a tray, put the tray in the freezer for about an hour, then tip into a freezer bag.
Use them from frozen in soups, stews or as a veg side dish. Turnip in a white wine sauce is delish. Honest.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
