My first chillis!

I have razzamatazz at the front and cayenne at the back ... only some of my cayenne don't look like cayenne, so I'm not sure what happened there - perhaps I used a mixed seed pack and forgot!

I'm just back from 2 weeks holiday and found the razzamatazz had burst into fruit while I was away. Can anyone help me with the colouring? Do they start green and go purple, or vice versa? It looks as if i have some yellow ones coming? How do I know when they're ready to pick and eat?

Not sure about that, Braders! You seem to have a higher quota of chillis per plants ... but I'm thrilled about mine anyway

Still not sure when I should pick the razzamatazz variety, although I saw someone else's post about "corking". I'll maybe pick some soon and try them, and leave others for later and see if they get this corking thing.

You have some great looking chillies there, some weird and wonderful varieties. This is my first year growing any, so I'm looking forward to trying more varieties next year. Are there any you would recommend, as much as for the fun of growing them (ie they look a bit different) as for the flavour?

Sorry about your sunflower ... could it perhaps have collapsed at the bottom as it's unstaked and the head fallen off when it hit the wall? It's horrible to think someone would deliberately damage it.

What type of chili is that in the middle picture in Part 1?

I'm growing some that look like the same variety, but they were a present so I don't know what they are.

I reckon that most chillis can be eaten at nearly any stage in their development. I used to love them red hot but can no longer manage them so I usually pick green just to give a bit of flavour. The only one I suffer for is small red tomato chillis gently poached in olive oil and stuffed with cream cheese. But then I no longer eat the seeds.

the one in the middle of part one is a cayenne - they're all labelled, hover over the thumbnail and it will show you a tooltip that will say "my-first-chillis-" followed by the name of the chilli,

I'd recommend the fresno, the apachi, the banana sweet, the cayenne and the jalapeno, just because i think they're the most interesting ones. the patio sizzle i've got is a very weedy example, i'll try and get a photo of one that's considerably more bushy in my friend's polytunnel, it has lots of little candle style chilli's that change colour 2 or 3 times when ripening.

I realise there's a seed swap section, but I don't have anything to offer in return so I'm happy to purchase. Does anyone have any good website links? I'm assuming the regular main seed sellers don't carry huge ranges of chillies ...
