  • asparagus from seed query

I sowed some seeds way back in spring and when they came up, they got potted on. I now have them 2 to a 8inch pot.
I was wondering if I need to cut them back this year? Or do I leave them? They lok quite 'ferny' and healthy but not going into final bed til next year.
They are about 12 inches or so tall.

    Thanks

Mine are the same except they are all individually potted in about 5" pots. I was going to just leave them this year and then plant them in their final locations next spring (assuming I've worked out where I'm going to put an asparagus bed and prepared it ready.....)

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I am moving at the year end, so have started the new asparagus bed from seed. Space is at a premium during the move so the poor seedlings are very cramped up in a tray of 56 3.2inch pots on capilliary matting with regular growmore feeding. The plants are 18 inches high! I figure they will get over being pot bound once I plant them out in their new location next year.
