Hi all, what do people think of composting xmas waste?

I have a tree that I think will be OK, if slightly acidic (clay soil should balence it out) but what abot mistletoe...I thought it might be poisonous and therefore not advisable for compost...

Hello Bay View Plot, I don't think I would put either of these on a regular compost heap. Christmas trees are very woody and would take a long time to rot down. The mistletoe I'm not sure about but I can just see it rooting in there. However, if like me you have ground to spare in an out of sight area you could dump them there and leave them to get on with it. Everything breaks down eventually.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

You can take old Christmas trees to council run sites for recycling in a lot of areas, think they shred them down and mix them with all the other stuff they have.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I think I'm going to strip the branches off and keep them in black bags, send the trunk to the council compost tip, and use my needles around blueberry plants
