  • Butterbeans?

I love these - and had some cooked in some marvellous Italian way at my BIL's (and obviously SIL's) wedding four years ago. The taste still haunts me in a good way.

Anyway, I wondered what sort of bean a butterbean was in gardening terms and can we grow it in this country? I'm in Kent and have a suntrap garden so have good growing conditions.

Or is it obvious and I'm a dimwit not thinking to look for butterbeans? I just haven't found any.

"Henderson's Bush Lima Bean" (if you can find them ) are supposed to be quite an early variety, so you might get a reasonable crop from them.

Seeds of Italy have some; Seeds of Italy - LIMA BEAN But I don't know if they're any good.

Nah, you can't eat it, and you have to keep cutting it

Exactly! Himself insists on keeping it for the sproglet to run around on, but I don't see him mowing it.

I just need to convert half to fruit and veg and half to a chicken run (the kiddiwink can go in with them). Perfect solution!

I bought a pound of dried butter beans from Tesco's and planted some of those. I'll let you know later whether they come to owt!
