Brewers leftovers-any uses?

There happen to be two (at least) microbreweries near me and when i passed the other day i noticed black bin bags full of what smelt like hops/beer, and looked like brown sludgy compost.
Can this be used for soaking for plant feed or composted? Or whatever.
