Yeah, it's similar to an onion, pic attached is after about 2 months, with a few carrots planted inbetween. They should be ready about June/July next year.

Me too, 14 cloves each of 6 varieties in 2 small raised beds in my back garden. 5 varieties were self-saved stuff from harvest earlier this year, the 6th was from a bulb of Moldovan I bought on Sunday.

Oh good! I may wait untill i have moved house and then i can plant them straight into the ground rather than in tubs. Then they wont need moving either which is a bonus!

Oh deer, ive heard lots of people say that their garlic has rotted away. Is this a common problem? and can you use fertiliser on garlic? I guess its just seaweed and chicken pellets?

If garlic is rotting it is because it is too wet. It shouldn't need fertiliser unless the soil is pretty poor.

Two_sheds is right I do plant my main garlic in December, and that should be ready for harvest midsummer; but you can put it in earlier it just takes longer to grow. I can start harvesting my August and Sept planted garlic in March and April as green garlic.

Check out the seed catalogues. We got some great onion setts from Dobies the other day there. They are all nicely planted out now along with our Aqua Dulce broad beans, over wintering peas and a nice F1 beetroot. Oh, and a 60 day Rab Brocolli and some over winter spring onions.

I planted mine out a couple of weeks ago - when I dibbed the holes, I sprinkled in some grit so the clove would not sit in/on water which will hopefully drain away
