Wow. I never thought of lifting my dalek up off the compost. I shovel through the little door at the bottom. I use a tool that I call a ground twister as I dont know its real name. It has 4 spikes on the end of a long handle that you are meant to put in the ground to loosen weeds roots. It works well on the compost.

I know what you mean about it been a pain to turn the compost. Have a look at my thread in "Vegging out" entitled "Project finally finished". I have had my compost bin for a couple of years. The first year I didnt get the mix right, I also added leaves, not good as they take ages to rot. I have had it going for about a year now and mines the same full to the brim with unrotted stuff and a tiny amount of compost at the bottom, I am going to move mine soon so will lift if off, move it, fill it with the unrotted stuff and add more that I have in a square overfill one that is made of plastic coated wire, its only used when dalek is too full then transfered. My leaves I now put in sacks and let them rot down, I get loads as my plot has loads of trees behind and along the bank.Gardening ..... begins with daybreak

Ours wewre a right pig to get used to. I much prefer a home made pallet style composter. Anyway, we were given these things, four of them. Took ages to compost anything till I remembered what I was told when the Dalek first came out. Mix some grass between your "stuff" you wish to compost, make sure it is kept wet, use a compost activator OR a pile of fresh compost OR, pee in a bucket a pour onto "stuff" in Dalek.
We now stick the digging fork in and give it a twist every few days to keep the mix well mixed upComment
