      thanks for the tip about the garlic chives vicki - i grow them at home so i can easily transplant them to the lottie as well.
      Good luck with the bindweed - the couch grass is my biggest pain and like you I didn't want to spray but in the end after reading some of the posts about the soil association accepting its use for perennials i bit the bullet and used it on a third of my plot - I'm so glad I did but it was the first and last time of use (I hope!!)

        Just a further question about manuring, when it says not to sow in recently manured ground, how recent does it mean? If I manure now and then not sow in that area for another 6 months, is that recent? I'm just trying to work out where to manure and where to crop rotate

            I think within the last 12 months means 'recently' - so last spring would be fine

              I manure for Spuds as they are hungry feeders, follow with Brassica's as they don't like it freshly dug then Carrots last. The onions I tend to grow in one area but keep it really clean.
