Flower tubers.

I have grown flowers from seed which are planted around the edges of my vegie patch, when I dug up some potatoes I lifted the roots of the flowers these contained tubers, I replanted them at the time. Now that the weather is turning and their may be a frost soon Im not to sure what to do??

Is it best to dig them all up & store them in a dry frost free place??
Or leave them in the ground for next year???

Shaun you do like to make it hard for us! What kind of flowers were they?
That would indicate whether they are hardy or not. Just a wild guess - were they annual dahlias?

Yes they are dahlia's, there are still some flowers on them at the mo, but there time is nearly up.

Hi Shaun - let them die back some more then cut the stem a couple of inches above the tuber and store them upside down in some barely moist peat in a cool frost free place. Then start them up again next spring in time for next year's show!

or you can mulch them where they are (not dig them up) if you are in a milder area, not too much frost

Shaun, you're in Surrey so you could leave your dahlia tubers in the ground. Don't leave them just for the sake of it though - only leave the ones you really like.

Oh thank you, I was so supprised when I saw the size of one of the tubers when I acidently dug it up, it was only in march when I planted the seeds.
