I too am giving the raised bed thing a go,i'm using old joist's which a friend of mine gets from a scrap yard, decided on this as my 3 year old likes to help and thought it would save me cringing every time she runs over what i have just dug or tramping over my plants.

The first veg I grew was sweetcorn, really easy just remember to water everyday. I had lovely tasting sweetcorn, was sorry when I ran out. Tomatoes are fairly easy, just remember to pinch the side shoots out and water regulary or they will split. My husband and I grew potatoes for the first time last year, they were so much nicer then shop bought. They are good to start with too.Piper
