We grew them, under one name, many years ago and liked them. I bought some seeds to sow next year and like Snadger I seem to have the same thing with another name. Still, I'll give them a go!

They were always called Crystal lemon but in early Victorian times (remember them?) apples were very difficult to find until the season started in very late summer (no earlies then). These are so nice and sweet that people used to eat them like an apple in summer, presumably peeled because the skins are, as every one says, a bit on the tough side. So they also became known as Crystal apples. This info. was given on 'The Victorian Garden' series on the telly, in the days when you could get decent gardening programs on the telly.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

Happy New Year to you all - this is my first post of 2010. Just wondering if it really is worth growing ours outside as we too struggled for space in the greenhouse? I will be growing Burpless Tasy for def this year, I was hoping to try Crystal too but wont be able to as our seed budget has been drastically cut as we had to use the money set aside for seed (important to us as it was girls first christmas) to replace our camera so will be loking for updates from you guys with interest.

Many cuckes are fine outdoors - as long as you don't put them out too early. Treat them like squashes - but do check they are outdoor types. Good luck!

PM me your address F.D. and I'll send you a few Crystal seeds. They are fine outside but you won't want to plant them until late April so (as always) I could be slow sending. Especially as it has just started to snow heaven's hard again here.

If you are short of greenhouse space you might like to know that I grew Burpless Tasty outside last year and they were fine.
