Two things that can be added to the cut surface to seal it are flowers of sulphur or woodash, but as Jacob says, it's very rarely needed anyway!

Just to add my two penneth.............there could, I feel, be a negative side to splitting tatties into individual chitted portions.Apart from the possibility of fungal disease on the wound.
When a tattie grows the haulm usually has multiple stems. If they are grown with single stems and for instance get wind damaged or diseased in some way, the crop is lost, whereas with multiple stems it is highly likely a few stems will survive and give you a crop......Just a thought!

Bigmally growing in the back garden the vines the only place I can turn to for gardening help so i don't mind admitting I'm a bit clueless sometimes.

Braders I just never got around to growing potatoes before I usually stick to lettuce carrots, parsnips, runners and toms. So this year its time to branch out a bit by adding pots, and now I've got a greenhouse I can have peppers and cucumbers as well.

Go for it Bren........good luck. I too am a garden grower so have to rely on the vine for excellent advice.
