Bean problem

Hi guys
I have never grown beans befor and on a garden tour i picked up som bean in a glass conatiner with roots barely showing. I do not know what type they are and how to grow or take care of beans so i would like som help. I have put to in soil and two wrapped up in tissue to see how they do. Please may i have som pointers guys

Difficult to say - as beans [unless they are broad beans] wont be sown for another 2-3 months yet....

What size and colour are the bean seeds? If they are quite large and greenish, they could be broad beans in which case you will probably be able to plant them into pots and keep them outside as they are quite hardy.
If, however, they are medium sized and mottled pink/black/green, or small, the chances are they are some sort of runner or french bean and I'm afraid you're batting on a very sticky wicket. French and runner beans are not usually sown until April or May as they are frost tender.

I have done som research and they are nut runner beans and seem too look like broad beans. If that is any help

Whatever type of bean they are they need to be planted in potting compost in pots initially. If they are broad beans they will survive in a cold greenhouse or even outdoors. If not, they will die!

Pop your broadies in small pots or big-ish modules of compost. When they get to 3" high or so, plant them out in your garden. Then, depending on variety, you might need to stand back a pace - I had some (Bunyard's Exhibition I think) that grew taller than me - and I'm 5ft 9") Most will be 3 - 4 ft though.

so can i put my beans outside now, and if so can i just put them straighj into the ground.

Broad beans can go straight in the ground now, if you like. If you've grown them inside, harden them off for a few days.

ive put them into a unheated greenhouse so they sould be fine then.
