Can i grow successfully in this artificial light?

Hi everyone

I have been interested in some threads about using artificial light to help plants along.
I decided today to place my seedlings in a 2 foot fish tank (waterless) and cover the back and sides with kitchen foil for reflection.I am not sure of the type of fluro bulb in it but assume it to be a standard one.
Will the use of this type of light help/hinder or have no affect on my plants?

Can anyone help?

I THINK you need a uv light (like a tanning bed). You can buy small units which would suit the purpose. The plants also need periods of darkness, and it's hard to get the light levels right.

Any reason you're trying this, or are you just bored of waiting to get growing?

I am trying this simply as an experiment.Last year was my first proper year of growing and i found i did'nt have enough time to ripen a lot of tomatoes and chillies.
I have seen that some on here help the early sowings of chillies/toms along with artificial light so thought i would give my fish tank method a try.
My thinking is that the Glass in the tank will give a "greenhouse affect" but i am unsure if the lighting would be suitable.

If it all goes wrong then i still have plenty of time to sow some more but hope it does'nt come to that!

Hi . Many many years ago I used to keep fish and the tube in the light used above the tank was called a grolux ( or a very similar name). This was used to encourage healthy plant growth.
