Vermicilite

hi everybody
i'm a lottie owner of 3 years[not my age i must add]with still loads to learn and i would be glad of any advice on the advantages if any ,of using vermiculite when planting seed

Hi Snuffy,

It is not really a lottie just a bit of waste ground behind my house that I am using. I am quite sure your poly tunnel will seem to small over the coming months!

I have just been offered a 12x8' greenhouse from FReecycle, it is actually in not to bad a condition, but the OH started on how are we going to get it down, rebuild it etc even before he had seen it. Then he really started when we looked at it!!

It ain't going to be easy, but I AM HAVING IT!!

Don't worry about the size of your polytunnel Snuffy, its the same size as mine and in three years I'm running out of space! There are some pictures in the undercover operations Board and other tips about polytunnels.
Try a search on the Grapevine for vermicilite as I think there was a thread about it last week (but I can't find it now!).

Hello Snuffy, and welcome to the Vine. I use vermiculite when planting seeds. I find the seedlings much easier to transplant as they come out of the compost more easily, so less risk of damaging roots etc. I also find it easier to use to cover seeds lightly when planting. I know some grapes don't use it at all but I find it works for me.
There is quite a wee bit about vermiculite on the forum if you have a search for it. Good luck with your growing and enjoy your polytunnel.
