I too grow mainly climbing peas but find the guttering works well, but don't drill drainage holes in it like I did the first year as the roots get all tied up in them. The soil can drain OK at each end and I never have any problems getting them to slide out using general multi purpose peat free compost. Planted some more on Friday but won't be pushing them out for a bit yet.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I use this method every year with great success. A little planning is advised though.

Make sure your gutter lengths aren't too long, especially if planting into a raised bed, or small plot. Even if you do have room for a six-foot (or longer) length consider the practicalities of lifting and manoeuvring it when full. Shorter lengths are easier to handle.
A good beginning is half the work.
Praise the young and they will make progress.
