I have some onion seedlings in a polytunnel. They've been doing ok, but when I visited them today the compost seemed a bit dry. Before they seemed to be getting water from the condensation inside the polytunnel. Should I water them? I'm worried if I do the water will freeze, but if I don't, they'll die. What to do?

I'll probably get corrected on this but I would give them a water using tepid water in the morning.

I've just watered my onion and leek seedlings for the first time in a fortnight. They need water and will die without, whereas compost freezing will not kill them!

Dig the top inch or two and see if the soil is dry - if so, water!

Right then, off to the allotment tomorrow to give them a drink...
