some of the seed packets i have say from feb/march but i thought it had to be warmer before you can sow anything.

I think lots of us are starting things indoors in modules - like tomatoes/chillies/aubergines - that need a long growing season. Or alliums that grow well once started indoors. Lots of threads about what stuff folk have started, depends what you like and what you want to grow I guess.

I've got tomatoes, chilli, sweet peppers, aubergines, on the window sill then broad beans and lettuce in the unheated greenhouse.

after 4 days nice weather,i tried to plant out my onions,but 1 inch down the soil was frozen for next 6 inches,gave up and went back inside,no good this week,sub zero forecast for each night and not much more in the day,we will just have to play it by ear (frozen).have had cold starts here before and plants seem to catch up most times..fingers crossed....bonus = cold will have killed a lot of the nasty bugs

Only got potatoes chitting as they're going into bags rather than the ground. As we're 2-3 weeks behind the South I tend to leave other things til mid - end March and they seem to catch up when we get some real warmth.

News this morning was Spring is 2-3 weeks late as there aren't enough daffs for St David's Day and to top it off the long range forecast seems to be for a cold March through to mid April. So plenty more frosts to come, maybe more snow. It's 2-3 degrees colder here than last year and the ground is still pretty solid. This week's local forecast is for frost every night.

Looks like April may be a better time to really get things going.

i might have a go at sowing some carrots this weekend. i've had 'the thingy in the yard' covered with plastic since we filled it with topsoil and some compost.
