Hi there Jan, welcome to Cyber-Bedlam, yes I'll have some artichokes, funnily enough I was thinking they are so expensive that no-one would ever have any to swap...! Would you like some French Marigolds or maybe some Salad Bowl cut'n'come again lettuce seeds to help you get started...? Or maybe some Shetland Black heritage tatties if I am given enough by my pal. Very suitable for square foot gardening, the lettuce are, to judge by the size my winter ones grew to. You can PM me if you are interested, I'll pay postage of course.
Okay, I'll admit it, I was just showing off there because I know how to Private Message people...LJ told me how last week ! (Click on the name of the person you want to send a message to, and use the drop down menu - or something like that. I forget. Memory like a sieve and a bank account to match...I think it's a common syndrome here!)There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

Okay Moderator, I admit it - I have been caught red-handed trying to kidnap Supersprout's waving smilie !
You know, on most forums if you pretend you are using or replying to text you can use copy and paste bits of it.... So tell me, how do you cancel a pretend quote on this forum ? And even more importantly, how do I add Handy Andy to my collection without SOCA arresting me ?
(Sorry for hijacking your thread Jan, as you might imagine I really didn't want to be having this conversation !)Last edited by Lesley Jay; 30-01-2007, 07:48 AM.There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

Hello, good evening and welcome Jan.
You're new to this whole online thing, I'm new to this whole growing stuff thing I guess we're all new at something?
In the few days that I've been on here I've found the people helpful, supportive and just a little crazy, but seem like a good bunch (bunch, get it!?). Anyhoo, I have yet to plant my first plant, you at least have posted your first post, so congratulations on that.
Good luck.A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

Hi there HeyWayne - this so neat I'm loving it May have probs posting a second thread as have now forgotton what I did so not feeling too smug at the mo! maybe this has got something to do with number two son fiddling with the computer and making it crash BIG TIME over the weekend. Managed to get to support centre in India for 4 1/2 hours over weekend and (get this) learned how to dismantle & sort out insides of computer. Needless to say, number 2 son now banned from fiddling with Anything!!!
Anyway, look forward to hearing your planting adventures over the year, what are you planning? I have hundreds of jerusalem artichokes going spare if anyone wants them - fuseau, the long thin 'knobble-less' variety.
Best, Jan

Hi Jan
yet to work out my plan of action, but needless to say I'm going to go steady to begin with. Start with the easy stuff - potatoes, garlic, onions - stuff we use all the time. See how I get on, and then start getting a bit more adventurous. I'm guessing that I'm running out of time to get things started/planted, but once I start planning what I'm going to do I'm sure I'll have a better idea.
Any advice on what I should start with would be appreciated.A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

Hiya grapes,
Hiya Nick - whats a 'Lurker'? - sounds great - might be tempted to change my sign in 'Jan-the-Lurk' has a kind of ring to it don't you think? (More like Jan-the-berk till I get the hang of this web chat thingy:O )- can anyone tell me how to reply to people who want artichokes sending to them?

Jan you can send them a PM - a Private Message. You can click on their name in the thread and a list will suddenly appear, including send a Private Message. Or alternatively you can click onto Private Messages at the top of the screen. This takes you straight into your own area for messages.
Let me know if you have any problems.~

Hi Jan and a warm welcome to the madhouse!!
If there's any JA's going spare I'd love some! Will PM you if you'd like?
To reply to those who've asked for JA's, just click on their name (in the top left of the box at the top of each post) and a menu will appear, which will give you lots of options including send a Private Message, then click on that and it will take you to the PM screen, write what you want and then hit send!
Hope that is of some help!Blessings

Thanks for info all - just tried it out & will know if it works if I get a response.
Just to say, reading the threads is such a laugh, great sense of humour you guys! Just read about lottie widows, brought a smile to my face, since finding this forum OH complaining about being 'website widower' Everytime I surface I have more plans in hand for him to look at due to all the great ideas - he's beginning to look definitely 'green' . Managed to get him making newspaper pots though thanks to the links (maybe he'll perk up a bit if he thinks we can offset the cost of seeds by recycling things)- keep up the banter, it's such a tonic after hard day in the city - best, Jan

Ahh - I see
When you're new to this it's a bit like trying to get across a four lane motorway - by the time you've plucked up the courage the moment has passed . Anyhow, I'm looking forwrd to when i've got enough experience to put in my 'two-penneth' instead of just asking questions, guess I'm just abit too impatient to get out there and grow something
