Ok, another question for all you clever growers...How long after planting spuds in a hessian bag in the greenhouse can I expect to see some signs of life? I planted them about 3 weeks ago! Was that too early? Have I comitted murder???? No sign, not a sausage

It may be too cold still. Is the greenhouse heated? How did you plant them? You should plant the spuds with a layer of compost just enough to cover them and then re-cover them as the leaves poke through, repeating this until you fill the container to the brim with compost.

I planted them as you said Capsid in about 4" of compost and covered them with a thin layer. The greenhouse is unheated. So If I leave them there until it warms up a tad will they be ok? or do you think they have gone to spud Heaven

They should be OK as compost will keep the frost off. I think it has been too cold for them. Why don't you dig down carefully and see if there are shooting/rooting? Also don't water them until they have shooted, this may encourage them to rot.

They seem fine they have grown a bit where I chitted them and a few tiny roots are growing from the same area, but nothin at the bottom. Is that normal!!!!

That all seems fine to me! What variety are you growing?

Pentland Javelin and I have some Roosters to put in...oh and Potato Accord

These are normally used for storing potatoes, not growing them.
Has anyone had success with this method?

I bought these from Wilko's they are called potato grow bags, they have drainage holes and handles on them... I just thought they looked nicer than a grow bag

Aren't they made of a plastic weave and not hessian?

I've got a load myself and I'm sure they're a plastic type of material.

I saw those ones too, but these are Hessian I would post up a pic but not sure how to do that on this forum.
