A chit too far?

I have had some potatoes in the kitchen in my windowsill for ages.......to be honest i forgot they were there. Now they have lots of eyes on and are looking good. I want to plant them this weekend but when i picked one of them up yesterday it felt a bit soft. Does this mean it will be no good, or is it still ok to plant?

This is normal. They do tend to shrivel a bit and feel soft whilst they chit. If they are completely mushy and can be squashed to a pulp easily then they have rotted, otherwise they should be fine.

Does this mean it will be no good, or is it still ok to plant?

It means it's taking reserves from the spud to make new leaves,roots etc. Once it's planted and growing well, the original spud will rot away
