I'm really glad to see this thread. Only yesterday my OH found a small pot of leeks in the greenhouse. I'd forgotten all about them and didn't know if I could prick them out or to just put the whole lot in a large pot undisturbed. Mine are a bit bigger than a pencil and I haven't got any garden space so they'll have to go in a pot.

When were they sown? If they were from last years spring sown leeks you've probably only got until end of April before they run to seed!

Must have been late summer. Greenhouse gets cleaned when toms finish and then everything gets put in for winter. Greenhouse is heated. They're about as thick as my thumb. My first attempt at leeks so hope they don't run to seed.

I've ate my thumb size ones (sow a bit late last year) for dinner. I'd presume that as soon as the weather starts warming up they'll start growing again and be no good/bolt. Sowing this years lot is my next job.

I've used kitchen roll tubes to blanch (get a decent bit of white stuff) the leek

I push them down into the soil a little way and then as soon as I can grab enough of the green stuff to pull through, I wack them on - if that makes sense?
