Raised beds?

mine are painted but never realy thought of lining them to protect the wood,my problem is the cost of the paint..

I treated mine with a wood preservative then stapled black bin liners to the insides.

I was looking for a picture for my 'blog' about a simple raised bed system made just with posts, string and plastic to be used in a greenhouse and I found this picture, which shows a willow frame for a raised bed.
As willow grows very easily, it is a very ecological and aesthetically pleasing raised bed.
As we are growing willow, I will be trying this next year.

It would look nice, but at that height, I imagine the weight of the soil behind it, after a time, would make it 'billow'?
At a height of up to 6" it wouldn't be such a problem though!

I totally agree Snadger, but I might face my old raised beds with willow, or build them lower or stronger than pictured.

Luckily, I have enough space to get plenty of willows in. I had some cuttings that were just left in a bucket full of water over winter and now are full of roots and shoots. Unfortunately, the ones that I planted last year in the chicken run, survived the chickens nipping off the lower shoots, only to have the tops chewed off by the horses reaching over the fence.
