  • Tomato and courgette seed help

I sowed some tomato and courgette seeds 2 week ago and theres no sign of anything growing. I had a look today and the seeds are still there just not doing anything. They are in an unheated greenhouse with half bottle cloches.

Should I just leave them and wait and see or should I start some more off?

Bring them into the warm for a bit - that should get them moving. I've just had tomatoes germinate in 2 days in the airing cupboard.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

My chillies weren't germinating, so I put them ontop of my radiator. Almost all of them came through in a couple of days.
      Definitely bring them indoors.

I will try that. I need to find somewhere that they can go. Unfortunately my house isn't much warmer than the greenhouse lol

It'll be warm out there in the day but at night the temps will plummet and they don't like it. For some reason they only germinate if the temps are kept constant/consistent. They're fussy things like that

I shall fetch them in tomorrow. I will rig something up so that they are off the floor and sorta in front of a window.

Why don't you invest in a small (seed tray size) electrically heated propagator. You can get them for less than a tenner. Not exactly superscience, but I've had one for five years now and it;s worth it's weight in gold. It sits on my kitchen windowsill and is just used for germinating seeds. As soon as they've germinated they're moved to the windowsill proper, and then to the unheated greenhouse.

I desperately want one but at the moment I can't justify spending even a tenner.

have moved all my tomatoes and courgettes into the house. I shall give them a week and if there's no sign of life I will start of some more.
