Talking about compost caddies and the like (as this thread did earlier!), I've just ordered my Ma and I a couple of kitchen compost caddies from Lakeland, together with a couple of packs of biodegradable starch-based bags to put in them to keep things simple to transport. The green plastic bin (though not as pretty as a crockery one), was a fiver, and the bags are £1.50 for a pack of 10. I think it's a top idea, and have convinced Ma to let me have all her old kitchen waste in returm for some compost when it's ready. I live on my own and hardly eat anything, and have always struggled keeping veggie waste etc. anywhere unobtrusive to take to the lottie, so this'll do me a real favour.
