  • Help - I'm growing mould..........

......I decided to sow my latest lot of seeds in toilet roll middles.

On Sunday I filled them with compost, placed a seed in each and then put on the windowsill.

I have looked at them today and they have a flufy type of mould around the rolls, is this normal or have I missed something.

    Thanks
    Jax

    Hi Jacqui

I too seem to be very good at growing mouldy things! I think its quite hard with the toilet roll middles and fibre pots because to keep the soil damp you are also going to make the container damp...which probably encourages the mould.

I'm sorry I dont have any advice as a newbie myself, I just had a similar experience with the fibre pots.

Bit of mould on the loo rolls has never bothered my seedlings.

I wouldnt worry too much, to be honest the conditions for germinating seeds are perfect for breeding mold (damp and warm) I usually end up with mold as Im terrible for overwatering and it has never really bothered me lol. Doesnt seem to affect the plants. I personally think its just one of those things, however a more knowledgable grape may be along with different advice.

Microwave your loo rolls for a minute before potting up (watch them!) and you won't have mould

Kills the spores I've read on here..

As Two Sheds says though, do watch them - I think mine were on the brink of caching fire - they were extremely hot when I took them out

[edit: and they still went moudly ]
