  • Valentines Day

    Hi All,
well I`ve got broad beans that are about 4ins tall ,Japanise onions
& I got a shed for christmas, although the day after it blew over on to its side I could see my poor dead shed lying on its side with its eye poked out (broken window) All is ok now he`s bolted to the paving slabs that I got for VALENTINES DAY (sad cow)
Just not quite sure when or what kind of potatoes to plant.

Angie, you're as bad as me! No 1 son asked what I wanted for my birthday and couldn't believe it when I asked for a bale of compost. Good on him though, he bought it for me and it was much better present than the usual smellies (lots of which I can't use because my skin reacts).

Which potatoes depends on what sort you eat, and how much room you have. I always grow first earlies - nothing beats the taste of spuds lifted and cooked within the hour. I don't bother with maincrop, but now the whole allotment has been cleared (well almost), I may put a few in this year.

        I can match that.
OH & I have always agreed to do nothing for Valentines Day (over hyped & expensive) so this year I have brought him a Witch Hazel tree 'Aphrodite' so that I can plant it in my garden .

(It seemed a good excuse to me to buy an expensive tree that I wouldn't have been able to justify for myself - and he would never have taken the hints to get it for me )

I got some fab 'lace-up wellies' for christmas !! (See pic Trousers put up on the It's going to snow thread).... and guess wot?
In all the beautiful snow that we've had over the last two days, our new (rather lovely actually) postman delivered a Jiffy Bag to the door with my name and address on it, and I needed to sign for it. We had a really lovely conversation, and then when I brought it into the cottage, (the package, not the postman....) Trousers SNATCHED it out of my hands, and said "you're not allowed to open that".

Well! and now he keeps saying to me: "Do you want your present yet?"
            So I keep saying: "No....."
So, it's a Valentine present (he bought with MY credit card!!! off t'internet)
            Ooh, I'M scared....(not).

You'd love him to bits. Piglette does, and Piglet simply adores him, which I find rather worrying at times, but hey, male bonding, and I'm very grown up (sometimes) and her and me just leave them to it.....(two naughty lickle schoolboys)!

I got s hose-reel from my parents for Xmas. I can't blame anyone but myself as I did ask for it.

Being single means no Valentine's pressies, but I have just got myself a GYO subscription, a compost caddy for the kitchen, and Carol Klein's GYOV so I don't think I've done too badly!!

Best pressie OH ever gave me was the wormery he gave me for my 35th.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Love the sound of lace-up wellies, wellie. Mr E bought me some for Christmas/birthday but they won't go all the way up my calves (Boo! Hoo!) so we are going to get rather creative with a stanley knife or something.

The gloves on the other hand fit like the proverbial and I haven't tried on the "kneelers" yet.

Yes, the Lace-up Wellies are cool EB, and mine do go all the way up, thankfully. Do watch out with those kneepads though!! I've got some, and they are so comfy I often end up in Tesco's with them still on and wonder why the HELL people are giving me such funny looks. And I'm rather embarrassed to say that I'm NOT joking.....

For Valentines Day Mr D has got us tickets to go and see the group 'Blackmore's Night' in concert, in June, in York (at the Grand Opera House), and I'm going to see if I can find a nice hotel for us to stay the night in, so it'll be a late valentines romantic night away with a nice meal and a great concert for us both! Just a shame that its not til June, but it is the first time they will have played in England, so we are both looking forwards to it!
