  • Need bird advice

I got my plot very late last year and by the time I got it cleared I only had time to grow a few bits , among these my PSB was devoured by the local birds.

Just wondering this year what the birds will eat/not eat. I'm growing a lot of sweetcorn, french beans (dwarf & climbing),courgettes, squashes and pumpkins - do any of these need protecting - thanks for any help

    Hi
Sweetcorn might, but other than that I have had no problems with beans, courgettes, squashes etc.

    Good luck

Our plots are mainly attacked by pigeons. Everyone grow trheir brassicas under cages. Notheing else seem to get taken - except very early peas, so most people sow their peas in containers and transfer when they are a bit bigger.

One year someone found his small, green strawbs were picked and left in piles - it was a squirrel!

None of the above will be attacked by birds (pigeons attack brassicas) but you may lose sweetcorn to rats or badgers.
Slugs will have the rest, given half a chance
