  • Short time lapse film

Yesterday, I did a very rough and simple time lapse film of an Atlantic Giant seedling opening up for the first time:

    My Pumpkin Growing Diary

It's about 20 seconds long, people who've seen it, like it, but take a look and feel free to add comments if you want.

Good grief, Pumpy - what a great time lapse - I hope mine show their faces that fast! I've only just sown my pumpkins and squashes. And we are neighbours. Hi!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

That's great Pumpy, thank you for sharing. It reminded me of David Attenborough's"Private Life of Plants"and was absolutely gobsmacked-time lapse is just...when you watch them grow

I sowed Butternut squash seeds some weeks ago and as soon as I saw the first little bit of green I watched them several times daily over the course of the next few days. I told my OH that you could almost see them grow it was so quick. He thinks I'm nuts.
Thanks Pumpy, that's a great video. I love time lapse. What sort of time period was it taken over?

Thank you all for the kind comments.

It was done over the space of a day, started it at about 9.30, taking a photo every 30 minutes and importing the lot into Windows Movie Maker. The camera is a really cheap low res thing, but its packed with features such as this.
I think you can get software to use a webcam to do the same kind of thing.

In the past I have used it to take photos of the urban wildlife, put a bit of food out, set the camera to "surveillance" mode and when the animal has a nibble, its photo is taken. Being digital, any really rubbish shots are just discarded.

The blog was set up so my sister who lives abroad could follow the progress of the growing which is why its a bit trivial in places.

Given the reaction so far, yes I think I will be doing some more time lapse.

                        Thanks again
