  • planting out seedlings help please

i have got in modules. cabbage, sprouts, broccoli, beetroot seedlings that probs 4 inch high. Im wondering that when i plant them out now do i need to plant them deeper as i dont think they will stand up by themselves. i know with tomatoes i can plent them up to the seed leaves but unsure for cabbage sprouts broccoli oh and beetrot.

Cabbage sprouts and broccoli definitely benefit from being planted up to their eye balls. Firm them in as much as you can, espesh the sprouts, in fact jump up and down on the ground before hand. Not sure about beetroot (?)

To be honest it sound's like your beetroot seedling's have bolted but without seeing them I couldn't be 100% sure, is there anyway you could you pop a photo on here for us to have a look at?
I agree with Shadylane with regard to planting your cabbage, sprout's and broccoli they don't mind being planted deeper, if you can put a cabbage collar on them when you plant them that will help keep the dreaded cabbage fly off them.

Plant brassicas deeper than in their modules (I go about 2 inches deeper) and firm in hard (if you pull a leaf the leaf should tear before the plant comes out!!)

I'd be tempted to plant the beetroot deeper too, just enough to make it more stable - half and inch or so?

vicky is spot on about soil firmness,i use the heel of my hand ,with all my weight ,to firm around any brassicas,or they will flop in loose earth..
