Ah, I used to live by Cardiff Gate.. since have moved out of Cardiff though.

Loads of male flowers on mine, my sole female flower has dropped off, and the pumpkin embryo is going yellow.. Come on girls, get your act together and get some more flowers out!!

I used to live in Cardiff too, went to college in Llandaff.

Male flowers should come out first on Pumpkns, its so that the bees get used to visiting the plants and when the females are out they stand a better chance of germination.

Am sad to report that the Foxes have dug up all but one of my giant pumpkins. Only Frankie remains :-(.

Have planted some more but it might be too late now, will have to see.

          How big??

As you can tell this is first time growing pumkins.

How big do these plants get because some of the "branches" are 3 to 4 feet long?

I have quite a few flowers on the two plants now and some fruits starting to form.

            Pumpkins are big plants.

How big depends on a number of factors, are they "regular" seeds or giant types?

I grew them for the first time last year from old seeds I got from a supermarket pumpkin, in pots or troughs and they bore one fruit per plant and got to be about 3 foot long, no more.

The seeds from these fruit were planted this year along with some other types including Atlantic Giants and some of the plants are bushy and some are vine like.

You probably know that the female flowers have the small fruit behind them, if this isn't pollunated, it will drop off, don't worry about it, a bee will come along and do bee things, or you can do it by hand. If it is pollunated this will swell and growth is quick.

Are your plants in the ground or in pots?

            HTH.

My pumpkins are in big pots.

I dont know what variety they are I got the plants from my sister.
She said they came from a pack that were for kids.

Had a look at garden centre and think they may be Jack O Lantern but not certain.
