  • Are my plant leaves too big?

    Hi,

I am after reassurance more than anything. This is my first season growing my own, and I am slightly worried.

The foliage on some of my veggies is huge and I am worried that the plants will not be able to produce much actual produce if all nutrients are going to the leaves.

In particular, the leaves on my French beans seem to be massive. I am growing in a raised bed, with normal B&Q multipurpose compost.

Has anyone else had a similar concern or am I being paranoid?
    Thanks

The leaves are what feed the plant by photosynthesis. What we add in the way of fertiliser, compost etc merely enables the plant to do it's own thing. Sounds like you have good healthy plants and they should soon be producing your harvest.

Likewise with my Caulis, the leaves are huge with no sign of any curds. If they don't show it'll be some more greens for the compost bin.
